Binghamton University broke ground on University Hall on July 30, 2025, and the four-story, 90,000-square-foot classroom and lecture building is now under construction on the SUNY campus in Vestal, New York. Hueber-Breuer Construction Co. of Syracuse holds the general construction contract on the $60 million project. The opening has slipped from an original June 2027 target to spring 2028.
Project Scope
The building holds 33 classrooms, a 300-seat lecture hall and a 180-seat lecture hall, adding more than 1,900 instructional seats to the campus. That’s the largest single addition of teaching space Binghamton has built in decades, and it’s a direct answer to a documented classroom scheduling shortfall that had been pushing courses into inconvenient time blocks and undersized rooms.
Why It Matters
Instructional buildings look simple next to labs or hospitals, and they usually aren’t. Large-span lecture halls with raked floors, acoustic separation between adjacent rooms, and the AV and power density that current teaching methods demand all drive coordination. Doing it on a live campus adds the rest: phased utility tie-ins, pedestrian routing, and a schedule that has to respect the academic calendar. The slip from June 2027 to spring 2028 is worth noting for anyone tracking SUNY capital delivery, since state higher-education work has been running into the same labor and material pressure as the private market without the same ability to reprice.
