Sampson Community College Health Sciences Building

Rural North Carolina is short on nurses, and Sampson Community College is building to fix it. The college broke ground July 1, 2026 on a 35,000-square-foot Health Sciences building in Clinton, its largest capital project, aimed at expanding nursing and allied-health training capacity.

Project Scope
JFK Architecture designed the building; Wilmington-based Clancy & Theys is the contractor. The facility gives the college modern simulation labs and classroom space for programs that had outgrown their old rooms, letting Sampson enroll more students per cohort instead of turning applicants away.

Why It Matters
The nursing shortage is worst in rural counties, where community colleges do most of the training and small hospitals depend on local graduates who tend to stay. Adding seats at a place like Sampson has a direct line to whether Sampson Regional Medical Center can staff its floors. It’s a small building with an outsized workforce payoff, the kind of quiet institutional project that rarely makes headlines but moves a local labor market.
