UT Arlington broke ground in March 2026 on the first building of UTA West, a new campus in the Walsh Ranch development in far west Fort Worth. The $149.5 million building is delivered design-build by Hensel Phelps with design partner HKS.
Project Scope
The first building anchors a campus meant to grow with one of the fastest-developing corridors in North Texas. It will hold teaching labs, classrooms, student services, a library and a café, giving the new campus a working academic core from day one. The design-build model lets design and construction run in parallel to compress the schedule.
Why It Matters
UTA West is a bet on where the Fort Worth region is heading. Eastern Parker County is booming, and the university is planting a campus ahead of the rooftops rather than chasing them. Pairing a national builder with a national design firm on a single design-build contract is how public universities are trying to move faster and hold budgets on greenfield campuses.
