The University of Tampa is putting its sciences under one roof. The private university is building a five-story, 153,000-square-foot science center to anchor its College of Natural and Health Sciences, replacing lab space scattered across older buildings that never fit modern instrumentation or class sizes.
Project Scope
HDR is designing the roughly $153 million building; Barr and Barr is the contractor. The center consolidates teaching and research labs, collaboration space, and faculty offices into a single hub. Construction started in spring 2026, with the building set to open in spring 2029.
Why It Matters
UT’s enrollment in the health and natural sciences has outrun its facilities, and prospective students shop lab quality the way they used to shop dorms. A purpose-built science center is a recruiting tool as much as an academic one. It also frees up the older buildings on the downtown-adjacent campus for other departments that have been waiting their turn.
