LA Metro A Line Foothill Extension to Claremont

The Foothill Gold Line’s extension carries LA Metro’s A Line its final 2.3 miles, from Pomona to a new station in Claremont at the edge of San Bernardino County. The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority named a joint venture of Skanska USA, Stacy Witbeck and Herzog Contracting as construction manager, working alongside designer Parsons.

Project Scope
The segment adds one light-rail station in Claremont and ties it into the line that already runs deep into the San Gabriel Valley. An 18-month preconstruction phase pairs the construction manager with the design team for constructability reviews, value engineering and cost estimating before major work begins.

Why It Matters
The Foothill extension has advanced in deliberate, fully funded phases for years, a contrast with the turbulence of California’s larger rail programs. Major construction is expected to start in late 2027 and take about four years, extending one-seat rail service further east across Los Angeles County.
