Gulf Shores International Airport is expanding its terminal, and the timeline is tight. TripTek Construction broke ground in July on the $15 million project, with a goal of opening the new concourse before the May 2027 flight schedule. Commercial service here only started in May 2025, and June 2026 already set a record with more than 34,000 passengers.
Project Scope
The expansion adds terminal concourse space plus an outdoor patio, a dedicated nursing area for parents, and more room for food, beverage, and retail. A $2 million grant from the FAA’s Airport Terminal Program, funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, is helping cover the work. The airport, in Gulf Shores on the Alabama coast, is building for a passenger curve that’s climbing faster than early forecasts expected.
Why It Matters
Small leisure-market airports rarely move this quickly, but Gulf Shores is trying to keep its terminal ahead of demand rather than behind it. The Gulf Coast has drawn steady tourism growth, and a terminal that can handle summer peaks without long lines is part of how a young airport keeps airlines interested in adding routes. Getting the concourse open before next summer’s schedule is the deadline that shapes the whole job.
