Amazon is building a data center campus near New Florence, Missouri, part of a roughly $10 billion investment in rural Montgomery County. It’s the second hyperscale project in the county, alongside a $15 billion Google campus nearby.
Project Scope
The campus will house server halls and the power and cooling infrastructure that support Amazon Web Services. Combined with the neighboring Google site, the two developments would take up close to 2,000 acres of former farmland along the Interstate 70 corridor.
Why It Matters
Two hyperscale campuses in one rural county is a stress test for local infrastructure. Transmission capacity, water for cooling and the tax deals used to land the projects are all live issues. For contractors, it’s a concentration of work that will pull crews and long-lead electrical gear into mid-Missouri for years, and a clear marker of how the AI build-out is redrawing the map of heavy construction.
