Proquip Rental & Sales started in March 2008 in Melton, Victoria, and describes itself as an Australian and family-owned company. From that base it now lists branches or service points in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Albury, Wagga Wagga and Perth, with the Bell Park yard covering the Geelong end.

The excavator fleet is the headline, and it is wider than the 10 and 12 tonne machines named above: 1 to 35 tonne. Within that range the company lists mini excavators for tight residential sites, large excavators for bulk earthworks, height-and-slew machines, and 3D GPS-equipped excavators for work being run to a digital model.

The rest of the fleet is easy to miss if you arrive on the excavator page. Rollers and compaction equipment, skid steers, wheel loaders, backhoes, dozers, graders, dumpers, telehandlers, tippers, and water trucks and water carts are all listed. Attachments for both excavators and skid steers are hired separately. Everything is offered as dry hire, short or long term, and the fleet is described as late models with low hours.

Two commercial details. There is a Rent To Buy program, so hire payments can be put toward ownership rather than written off, and the business runs a sales division for machines outright. Regular hirers can set up a 30-day account; otherwise credit card is accepted.

Yard hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm, closed weekends – worth planning around for a Monday start, since there is no weekend counter. The national number is 1300 467 777.
