Hillsdale Fabricators

Hillsdale Fabricators is a structural steel fabricator and erector based in St. Louis, Missouri, and part of Alberici Constructors. It was established in 1958 after an Alberici steel supplier fell behind on a job and Alberici fabricated the steel itself in its own warehouse, finishing five days early. Hillsdale now handles steel design support, fabrication, coatings and erection for automotive plants, civil and marine work, petrochemical and industrial facilities, healthcare and commercial buildings, stadiums and transportation projects across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The shop holds AISC and CWB credentials. Hillsdale fabricated the structural steel for Saronic’s Franklin, Louisiana, shipyard expansion.

Shop capacity is the number that decides whether a fabricator can take a job, and Hillsdale publishes it: a 250,000-square-foot fabrication shop, a 40,000-square-foot environmentally controlled paint space, and more than 50 acres of yard storage.

The paint space is the part that often gets overlooked. Industrial coatings applied under controlled conditions behave differently from field-applied systems, particularly on steel headed for petrochemical or marine exposure, and having it indoors removes weather from the schedule.

Logistics are the other differentiator. A river yard on the Mississippi lets Hillsdale preassemble steel and ship it by barge rather than breaking it into truckable pieces, which changes what is practical on large single-piece members and on projects with water access.

Credentials cover both fabrication and welding: AISC and CWB certification, plus American Welding Society accreditation, listed together under key certifications.

The market pages are organised by sector and are specific about the work: automotive, civil and marine, petrochemical and industrial, healthcare and commercial buildings, stadiums and arenas, and transportation. Alongside that the company has worked on power plants, airports, bridges and flood control structures.

Recent named projects point at the heavy civil end of the portfolio: the Williams Crossing Pedestrian Bridge, Energizer Park and the 43rd Street Pedestrian Bridge. Pedestrian bridges in particular tend to be long single spans with tight tolerances and a visible finish, which is where the design-support, fabrication, coating and erection sequence under one roof pays off.

On the leadership side, Jeanine Engle is senior vice president and market leader, and Steve Door is director of business development. The company also publishes a trade partners page for subcontractors and suppliers looking to work with it.
