Drew Tozer runs this himself. He spent fifteen years working in climate and energy before moving into stump grinding full time, and he answers the phone rather than routing calls through a call centre.

Pricing is published on the site, which is rare in this trade. The rate is $10 per inch of cumulative stump diameter, measured at the widest point where the stump meets the ground, with a $300 job minimum. Full cleanup with the chips hauled away runs roughly double the base rate. Hardwoods such as oak, hickory and sugar maple carry a 1.5x factor because of the extra wear they put on cutting teeth. That structure means a customer can estimate their own job before calling.

The main machine is a Carlton SP7015, a 60-horsepower turbo-diesel grinder about ten feet long that cuts to roughly 15 inches below grade. Smaller machines in the fleet are sized to pass through a standard 36-inch gate, which is what makes tight side-yard and backyard access possible without taking down a fence section. Ontario One Call is used to locate buried utilities before grinding anywhere near foundations, walkways or service lines.

Most single stumps take 15 to 45 minutes depending on size and root spread, and a typical residential job with a few stumps is done inside two hours. Grinding removes the stump and root crown below grade, so regrowth is not a concern; a few species such as poplar and elm can push shoots from leftover roots, and one follow-up treatment clears them.

The business carries $2 million in liability coverage and reports over 1,000 stumps removed with a 5.0 Google rating across more than 30 reviews. It is based at 62 Bramley Street North in Port Hope, and the reach runs west into Bowmanville, Clarington, Newcastle, Oshawa, Port Perry, Uxbridge and the GTA, north into Peterborough, Lakefield, Bridgenorth, Ennismore, Lindsay and Kawartha Lakes, and east through Colborne, Brighton, Campbellford, Warkworth, Trent Hills, Stirling, Tweed, Madoc, Marmora, Bancroft, Belleville and Prince Edward County.

Tree services also subcontract the grinding portion of their work here rather than owning a machine.
