Brice Fonville, son of the founder, is still hands-on in operations, and the business has run out of Wake Forest continuously since September 1996 as a father-and-son operation.

Equipment is what separates this kind of outfit from a two-man saw crew. Fonville runs a crane truck for sectional removals, a tracked stump grinder, a chipper with a dump trailer, and compact track loaders with grapple attachments. That matters on tight residential lots in older neighborhoods near Heritage, Rolesville Road and downtown Wake Forest, where a 90-foot pine has to come out in pieces over a roofline instead of being felled in one direction.

The service list runs wider than trees. Alongside removal, trimming, pruning and stump grinding, the company clears lots for building sites, installs and grades gravel driveways, hauls off debris, sells firewood, and handles commercial snow removal for parking lots through the winter. Crane-assisted removal is offered as its own service line rather than an add-on.

Coverage is deliberately narrow. Fonville lists eight communities it works in: Wake Forest, North Raleigh, Rolesville, Youngsville, Creedmoor, Franklinton, Knightdale and Hopkins, and says this is the only area the company serves. For a homeowner comparing bids, that is useful information, because a local-only crew is easier to get back on site if something needs a second visit.

Two practical points for anyone collecting quotes. First, ask about workers compensation, not just liability. Fonville makes the distinction explicitly, noting that plenty of tree companies working in Wake Forest carry general liability alone, which leaves the property owner exposed if a crew member is hurt on the job. Second, estimates are free and given in writing, and the company states the confirmed price is the price on the invoice.

Emergency calls are answered around the clock, which is the relevant capability after a summer thunderstorm or an ice event drops limbs on a driveway or roof. The company also publishes the warning signs it treats as urgent: a tree that has started leaning or has lifted and cracked soil at its base, large dead limbs, cracks or cavities in the trunk, and mushrooms or fungal growth at the root flare, which can indicate root rot.
