One thing sets this shop apart from most Bay Area remodelers: Eichler homes. The mid-century tracts across San Jose, Sunnyvale and Palo Alto come with open plans, floor-to-ceiling glass, post-and-beam framing and radiant slabs, and they punish a contractor who treats them like ordinary stock. Modular Remodeling and Design keeps a body of work and a library of guidance dedicated to them, covering everything from exterior and landscaping decisions to the mistakes that quietly destroy an Eichler’s character during a renovation.

The rest of the work is broad. Home additions and room additions, accessory dwelling units, garage conversions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, full-home renovations and ground-up custom builds all run through the same team. On the ADU side that includes navigating California’s permit rules, which change often enough that homeowners rarely track them.

The service map runs down the Peninsula and across the South Bay: San Jose, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Saratoga, Campbell, Los Gatos, Mountain View, Milpitas and Fremont, plus Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City, San Mateo, San Carlos, Burlingame, Hayward, Union City and Newark.

The company operates from 1141 Ringwood Ct. in San Jose under California contractor license #1067136, with office hours Monday through Friday and Sunday, 8am to 6pm. Projects start with a free consultation covering planning, permits and estimated investment before construction begins.

Note for anyone comparing quotes: the published process front-loads design and permitting rather than treating them as afterthoughts, which is worth asking about when you compare bids on an addition or ADU.
