Carl Abend and his wife Catherine founded the company in 1952. Carl was among the earliest people to hold a plumbing license in Maryland. Seventy-three years later the business is still family-owned, now woman-owned and operated, and still working the same stretch of Anne Arundel County.

That history shows up in the service list, which has grown well past plumbing. Drains and sewers cover cleaning, hydro jetting, and sewer repair and replacement. Water heaters cover repair, installation and tankless conversions. Plumbing proper runs from faucets and fixtures, garbage disposals, toilets, showers and tubs through to sump pumps, septic systems, water filtration, leak detection and full water line replacement. There is a commercial grease trap service. And HVAC has its own division — heating repair, installation and maintenance, boilers, furnaces and heat pumps.

The phone is answered 24/7, and the company’s line on emergencies is blunt: plenty of plumbers in Severna Park offer emergency service, the difference is showing up. There is a Home Service Plan for customers who would rather schedule maintenance than wait for a failure, financing options across budgets, and posted coupons and rebate and credit information.

Coverage runs to Annapolis, Arnold, Bowie, Brooklyn Park, Crofton, Glen Burnie, Millersville, Odenton, Parole, Pasadena and Severn, from the Severna Park shop at 44 Robinson Landing Rd and a second location on Bon Air Ave in Baltimore. The company holds a 4.8-star rating.

Alongside the trade work, Abend sponsors local events, programming and outreach in Severna Park — which, after seven decades in one community, is roughly what you would expect.
