MGAC is an owner’s representative and project and cost management consultancy founded in Washington, D.C. in 1996 by Mark Anderson, whose initials give the firm its name and who still leads it. It works on the owner’s side of the table: project and program management, cost management, project controls, scheduling, FF&E procurement and relocation. The firm marked 30 years in 2026 with more than 370 employees across 11 offices in North America, the United Kingdom and Australia, having acquired London consultancy RLF in 2021 and both Flint + Partners and Southern California’s Stonemark Construction Management in 2024. MGAC has managed more than 14 million square feet of Washington-area residential and office space, and served as owner’s representative on the Sherwin-Williams global headquarters.
Three goals were set when MGAC opened in Washington, DC in 1996: take on the most interesting and challenging work, enjoy working together, and build a real business out of it. Founder Mark Anderson, whose initials the firm carries, still runs it. The DC headquarters accounts for close to 40 percent of the North American workforce.
MGAC is an owner’s representative, which means it sits on the client side of the table. The service list covers project management, cost management, program and portfolio management, project controls, schedule and programme management, technology solutions, FF&E procurement, relocation management, and health and safety. Sectors run from civic and government, education and healthcare through critical environments, science and technology, cultural, hospitality, sports, transportation and infrastructure, and a dedicated luxury living practice that carries its own brand.
The growth pattern has been client-led rather than plan-led. Arnold & Porter’s projects took the firm from Washington to London within its first years. A Discovery Channel flagship store, arriving about six weeks after incorporation, turned into a 173-location retail rollout. Seattle opened in 2006 around private residential work, Toronto in 2012 for a bank’s Ontario build, Los Angeles in 2014 when MGAC absorbed a cost management and project controls team from the former Davis Langdon, New York in 2016, San Francisco in 2019, and Melbourne in 2025. The 2021 acquisition of RLF, a London consultancy dating to 1885, added Birmingham, Brighton and Glasgow; Flint + Partners and Stonemark Construction Management followed in 2024.
Recent programs give a sense of scale: Sherwin-Williams’ $860 million Building Our Future initiative, covering a downtown Cleveland global headquarters and the Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville; Johns Hopkins University’s Major Capital Projects Program across Baltimore and Washington campuses; a multi-year capital program for the DC Department of General Services covering schools, parks and recreation facilities; the Etobicoke Civic Centre for the City of Toronto; and project controls advisory work for Infrastructure Ontario. In 2026 the firm marked thirty years with more than 370 employees across eleven offices on three continents.
