NextEra Energy

NextEra Energy is one of the largest electric power and clean-energy companies in the United States, headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida. Through Florida Power & Light and NextEra Energy Resources, it operates one of the world’s biggest portfolios of wind, solar, and battery storage, alongside conventional generation. NextEra will build and own roughly 4.6 gigawatts of dedicated generation for the planned data center campus at the Department of Energy’s former Paducah site in Kentucky. Established in its current form in 1998, the company develops, builds, and operates generation and transmission infrastructure across North America.

NextEra Energy runs two very different businesses from its Juno Beach headquarters. Florida Power & Light is the largest rate-regulated electric utility in the United States by retail power sold, serving more than 5.6 million customer accounts and roughly 11 million residents across Florida. NextEra Energy Resources, the unregulated arm, is the world’s largest generator of electricity from wind and sun and a leader in battery storage, developing and operating projects across the U.S. and Canada.

That combination, a large regulated utility plus a national clean-energy developer, is what lets the company build, own, and operate generation and transmission at utility scale, from Florida’s grid to wind and solar farms far outside its home state. The workforce numbers around 16,700. Its pipeline increasingly pairs new renewable capacity with the firm, dispatchable generation that large industrial and data-center customers now require.
