Housing Trust Group

Housing Trust Group is a family-led multifamily developer founded in 1997 by Randy Rieger and based on Aviation Avenue in Miami’s Coconut Grove. HTG focuses on affordable and workforce rental housing and keeps development, construction oversight and property management in-house, with HTG Management running communities after completion. The company says it has developed more than 4,000 multifamily units and completed real estate transactions worth over $4 billion, mostly in Florida and the Southeast. Matthew Rieger is president and CEO. HTG developed Courtside Apartments II in Overtown with AM Affordable Housing, the nonprofit founded by Alonzo Mourning. The $58 million, 120-unit project, built by BDI Construction, opened in October 2026 as the second phase of the Courtside campus.

Development, finance, construction, property management and asset management all sit inside the same company. The finance arm is the one that decides which deals happen, structuring and closing construction loans, permanent debt, agency financing, tax credit equity and tax-exempt bonds. Affordable housing deals live or die on that capital stack, and keeping it in-house is why a developer of this size can keep a pipeline moving.

The current figures HTG publishes are larger than the ones commonly quoted: more than 70 communities completed, over 8,700 units delivered, and around five billion dollars in total real estate transactions across twenty-nine years in business.

The product mix is broader than the affordable label suggests. HTG describes itself as a national developer of luxury market-rate, workforce and affordable multifamily housing, and its footprint now reaches beyond Florida into Texas, Illinois and Arizona. Featured communities include University Station in Hollywood, Florida, Rhapsody in Miami, and Aviva in Goodyear, Arizona.

Leadership is split along those same functional lines, with executive vice presidents dedicated separately to construction, development and management. Randy Rieger is executive chairman and founder; Matthew Rieger is president and chief executive.

One external marker of consistency: the company has appeared on Affordable Housing Finance’s Top 50 Affordable Developers list every year from 2015 through 2025. The office is at 3225 Aviation Avenue, sixth floor, in Coconut Grove.
