Morrison Construction Company

Morrison Construction Company is a heavy industrial union contractor based in Hammond, Indiana, that has been building since 1925. From its Summer Street headquarters it handles mechanical, civil, structural and piping work for power, process, steel and petrochemical clients, backed by its own fabrication shop, equipment fleet and ASME, National Board and AISC certifications. Its direct-hire crews come from about a dozen building trades, including pipefitters, boilermakers, millwrights and ironworkers. Morrison also offers 3D scanning, CNC pipe and tube cutting and automated welding. Ozinga’s release on its new East Chicago slag cement mill, which can grind 1 million tons a year and opened Oct. 13, 2026, says many of the project’s construction jobs came through Indiana-based Morrison Construction.

The number that matters most on Morrison’s about page is 25,000 – the square footage of its fabrication shop. Paired with a company-owned equipment fleet, ASME, National Board and AISC certifications, and hundreds of qualified welding procedures, that shop is what lets the company fabricate pressure piping and structural steel off site under code and then install it with its own crews. On a refinery or mill turnaround, where the outage window is fixed and every hour of field welding is expensive, moving work into the shop is the whole game.

Technology services are listed separately rather than bundled into construction: 3D scanning, CNC pipe and tube cutting, CNC pipe and tube fabrication, and automated welding. Scanning an existing plant before fabricating tie-ins is how a contractor avoids discovering a two-inch discrepancy at 3am during a shutdown, and automated welding is what keeps procedure qualification consistent across a large spool count.

Staffing is framed as continuity rather than mobilisation. The company takes pride in management and crafts personnel who return to Morrison year after year, supported by technology-based project controls – which, for a union contractor assembling crews from roughly a dozen trades, is the difference between a familiar team and a fresh one every job.

Safety is stated as a condition of employment. The company’s position is that establishing, maintaining and promoting safety excellence on every project is non-negotiable, with ongoing education, training and enforcement, and every employee receiving extended safety management training individually and as part of a team. It argues employees are the best resource for preventing accidents and treats the resulting culture as something it has earned rather than claimed.

The industries page leads with process and petrochemical work and extends across power, steel and other heavy industrial sectors. Morrison operates from Hammond on two lines – 219-932-5036 in Indiana and 312-322-2100 in Illinois – which reflects a service area straddling the Northwest Indiana industrial corridor and the Chicago market.
