Hancock Refrigeration was founded in Leonardtown in 1970, and the second generation has run it since 1996 – Mark Hancock took over from his father, and all four of his daughters have worked in the business at some point. That continuity is the main thing separating it from the newer HVAC outfits in St. Mary’s County.

The shop works out of 28650 Point Lookout Road and covers the Southern Maryland tri-county area, with Mechanicsville, California, Lusby, La Plata and Prince Frederick among the towns named on its service pages. It holds a Maryland HVAC license (#10516) and a Virginia license (#2705074934), so work on the Virginia side is within scope rather than a referral.

Residential work runs the usual range – air conditioning and furnace repair and replacement, boilers, heat pumps, ductless systems, indoor air quality equipment, thermostats and controls. The commercial side is more specific than most residential-first contractors advertise: split systems, rooftop units, VAV systems and chilled water systems are all listed, which puts small offices, retail and light industrial buildings in St. Mary’s within reach.

On credentials, technicians are NATE-trained and the company has been a Trane dealer since 1992 as a charter member of the Comfort Specialist program. It also lists membership in RSES, the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, and ACCA, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. Hancock states it is licensed, insured and bonded.

Three practical points for anyone comparing quotes. There is a separate emergency number, (301) 475-8298, alongside the main line, and 24/7 emergency repair is advertised. Installations carry a two-year free labour warranty on top of whatever the manufacturer covers. And financing is offered through Wells Fargo and Synchrony, which matters on a full system replacement.

The refrigeration in the name is not vestigial. The business started on that side of the trade and still carries it into the commercial equipment work.
