The founder’s route into the trade is the thread running through this business. Lek Gjoka arrived in the United States from Albania in 1998 with no English, no money and no HVAC experience, having already completed a degree and military service. He started in an equipment warehouse, moved into installation, worked up to service technician, was naturalised in 2006, and started Cool R Us the following year. The company says it doubled in size each year in its early stretch.

Two commitments are published rather than implied, and both are checkable. The first is that a permit is pulled on every replacement job and each of those jobs is inspected. That is an unusual thing for a residential HVAC contractor to put in writing. The second is the 24-Hour Guarantee: if the company fails to respond within twenty-four hours of a customer speaking to one of its technicians, the diagnostic fee is waived, and the customer still receives a full estimate and remains free to decline the repair.

Technician standards are set out plainly too, covering uniform and badge, punctuality and treating the property as their own.

The work covers air conditioning repair and installation, heating repair and installation, preventative maintenance, indoor air quality and air duct repairs, with a dedicated Trane product line. The Florida licence number, CAC1815614, sits in the site footer. Financing runs through two partners, Wells Fargo and Microf, and booking is handled through an online scheduling system with a customer portal.

Coverage runs from Jacksonville out to the beaches at Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach, south through Ponte Vedra to St. Augustine and Saint Johns, and west to Orange Park and Middleburg.
