The PENTA Building Group

The PENTA Building Group is a commercial general contractor based in Henderson, Nev. Jeff Ehret, Ken Alber and Blake Anderson started it in 2001 after long careers at Perini. It’s since spread past Southern Nevada, with offices in Phoenix, Pasadena and Irvine, Calif. The firm builds hospitals and life sciences space, schools and university buildings, public works, aviation projects and parking structures, along with commercial and industrial work. Right now PENTA is one half of the team building Intermountain Health’s Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas, an eight-story, 828,600-square-foot pediatric hospital, with Salt Lake City’s Jacobsen Construction. Shepley Bulfinch and Gensler designed it. For a hometown builder, few jobs carry more weight.

What distinguishes this contractor from a general builder is how much it keeps in its own hands. Alongside preconstruction and construction management, PENTA lists self-perform trade work, and runs a visual design and construction group covering building information modelling, laser scanning, and drone and reality capture.

It contracts under four named delivery methods: construction manager at risk and design assist, design-build, job order contracting, and integrated project delivery. Job order contracting in particular points at steady public-sector relationships rather than one-off bids.

The market list is broader than the Las Vegas hospitality work the firm is known for. Hospitality and leisure takes in hotels and resorts, gaming, entertainment and theaters, retail and restaurant, residential, condo and timeshare, and clubhouse and recreation projects. Education and institutional covers K-12 and post-secondary, public works and government, parking structures, and aviation and transportation. Health and life sciences covers healthcare plus science and technology. Commercial and industrial reaches into mission critical work, industrial, mining, and tribal and Native American projects.

Four offices carry that geography. The Henderson base is at 2290 Corporate Circle, with Phoenix at 1048 N 44th Street, Pasadena at 155 N Lake Avenue, and Irvine at 2600 Michelson Drive, each published with its own map on the contact page.

Safety and quality get a dedicated section of the firm’s site, including safety campaigns and certificates, and the company runs the PENTA Cares Foundation as its community arm. Its stated mission language focuses on people, culture and communication, and on managing growth while staying open-minded in a changing market, which is a fair description of a contractor that has grown out of one metro into four.
