Technico Construction Services

Technico Construction Services is a full-service general contracting and construction management firm founded in 1997 and based at 25-39 Borden Avenue in Long Island City, New York. The company concentrates on multimillion-dollar capital improvement work for public agencies, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the New York City School Construction Authority and the New York City Housing Authority. Public agency work of that kind runs against fixed calendars and phased occupancy rather than open sites, which shapes how the firm sequences. Technico built the three-story intermediate school annex at 106 Avenue X in Gravesend, Brooklyn, a roughly 75,000-square-foot building adding 553 student seats, designed in-house by the School Construction Authority.

Founded in 1997, Technico has spent close to three decades on a client list that is almost entirely public: the MTA, the New York City School Construction Authority, the New York City Housing Authority, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services, and the New York State Office of General Services.

That is a particular kind of practice. Agency work comes with fixed calendars, occupied buildings, phased handovers and a documentation burden that private developers rarely impose, and a contractor that has built a business on it is organised differently from one chasing private development.

The school portfolio is the deepest part of it, spread across Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx at buildings including PS 169, PS 206, PS 216 and PS 87. Public housing work has taken the firm into Red Hook Houses, Coney Island, Isaac Houses, Campos Plaza II and Lillian Wald, all occupied residential stock where the work happens around tenants rather than on an empty site.

Transit adds a third category with its own constraints. Technico has worked on three Manhattan subway stations, Rockaway Parkway Station in Brooklyn, and the MTA’s Jerome Avenue facility in the Bronx. Two further jobs sit outside those groupings: the 69th Regiment Armory in Manhattan for OGS, and the Kings County Courts buildings in Brooklyn for DCAS.

The company describes itself as having grown from a quality-driven startup into a full-service general contractor running multimillion-dollar projects, and it offers construction management alongside general contracting, new construction, capital improvement program renovations, infrastructure work and interior and exterior building renovation.

Subcontractors do not simply get hired. Firms wanting to work with Technico complete a prequalification application covering past performance, safety record and reliability first, a screen that reflects how much of the firm’s exposure sits with its trade partners on agency contracts.

The office is at 25-39 Borden Avenue in Long Island City.
