Manhattan Construction Company

Manhattan Construction Company is a general contractor and construction manager headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, operating as part of Manhattan Construction Group. The firm’s own materials describe more than 120 years of work in Oklahoma, and it runs offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Tampa, Naples and Washington, D.C. Its portfolio leans heavily toward aviation, sports and entertainment venues, healthcare and government work. Manhattan is building the North Concourse at George Bush Intercontinental Airport’s Terminal B in Houston, a roughly 765,000-square-foot, 22-gate airside structure delivered around live airport operations, and topped out that building as part of the airport’s $2.55 billion terminal program.

Manhattan self-performs a defined set of trades rather than brokering every scope out: cast-in-place concrete, structural and miscellaneous steel, rough and finish carpentry, door, frame and hardware installation, and miscellaneous specialties. The company points to named jobs to show it. Structural and cast-in-place concrete at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Structural concrete plus rough carpentry, doors and specialty installs at NASA’s Exploration Science Building in Greenbelt, Maryland. Cast-in-place and structural concrete at Sam Houston State University’s art complex in Huntsville, Texas. Concrete and finish scopes on the Patterson Mansion addition in Washington, D.C.

Sports is a standing practice with its own leadership. Manhattan counts more than 100 sports projects and offers owners, universities, municipalities and development groups feasibility studies, site selection and project team selection before preconstruction even begins. AT&T Stadium, ONEOK Field in Tulsa, the Boston Red Sox spring training facility at jetBlue Park, and two phases of renovation at Raymond James Stadium sit in that portfolio.

Sixteen market sectors are listed in all, and several are less obvious than the headline ones: Native American projects, mission critical facilities, multi-unit living, cultural buildings, industrial and distribution, and civil work. Services span Builder-Driven Preconstruction, general building, construction management, design-build, self-perform, BIM and virtual construction, and program management.

Ownership shapes how the firm presents itself. Founded in 1896 by L.H. Rooney and now in the fifth generation of Rooney family operation, Manhattan describes itself as among the largest family-owned construction companies in the country.

The safety record is documented year by year: National STEP Platinum for 2020 and STEP Diamond every year from 2011 through 2019 under the Associated Builders and Contractors safety training and evaluation program, a 2021 National Safety Excellence Pinnacle award, and a 2020 Oklahoma Safety Council Pinnacle award. The company takes part in the industry’s annual Safety Week and reported delivering safety training to more than 3,850 workers across 245 trade partner companies during one of those campaigns.

Oklahoma landmarks remain in the portfolio, including the State Capitol dome and the Capitol restoration in Oklahoma City.
