KPRS Construction Services is a Brea, Calif., general contractor that Joel Stensby, Paul Kristedja and Lev Rabinovich started in 1998. It’s grown well past its Orange County base, with offices in downtown Los Angeles, Culver City, Northern California, San Diego, Dallas and Hawaii. The firm builds across most private and public sectors: multifamily and senior housing, hotels, tenant improvements and repositionings, industrial and cold storage, schools, civic buildings and parking structures. Its showpiece right now is the Robert Day Sciences Center at Claremont McKenna College, a 135,000-square-foot Bjarke Ingels Group design with each floor turned 45 degrees, which took an Award of Merit in ENR’s 2026 West Best Projects. That’s serious steel and timber choreography for a regional builder.
Nine sectors, seven offices, one self-description: a full-service general construction company. The breadth is the story here, and the sector list is specific enough to be useful rather than aspirational.
Office covers commercial, office and studio work. Residential spans multifamily, affordable and senior housing, hotels and luxury space. Tenant Improvements is its own category rather than a footnote, covering interiors, adaptive reuse and repositioning. Industrial covers logistics, distribution, cold storage and manufacturing. Public Works runs to education, city halls, community centres and transit stations. Parks and Stadiums takes in arenas, stadiums, clubhouses and aquatic centres. Retail covers restaurants, lifestyle and power centres. Medical covers med-tech, labs, hospitals and imaging. Infrastructure covers public storage, site work and parking structures.
Cold storage and medical labs appearing on the same list as transit stations is a genuine capability claim, since those three have almost nothing in common operationally. The service side backs it with preconstruction, construction, design-build, VDC and BIM, sustainable development and safety as named offerings.
Where the firm works: Orange County, Los Angeles, Culver City, Northern California, San Diego, Dallas and Hawaii.
Recent delivered work gives a sense of typical scale. KPRS Multifamily built AMLI Aero, a 434-unit apartment community in San Diego. It built Silva Los Angeles, with 221 residential units. And it carried out a significant renovation and multi-phased expansion of Yamaha Corporation of America’s Buena Park headquarters, which is the kind of occupied-campus phasing work that separates experienced builders from cheap ones.
Rankings the firm publishes: number 129 on the 2026 ENR Top 400 National General Contractors list, number 4 on the Orange County Business Journal’s 2026 county ranking, and first place in the Education category of the LA Business Journal’s 2026 Commercial Real Estate Awards for the Robert Day Sciences Center. Named clients include Amazon, Gensler, Citibank and Walgreens.
What the site does not publish is a headcount, a founding year, square footage built, a safety record or EMR figure, or any trade association membership, despite listing safety as a service. For an owner running prequalification, EMR and bonding capacity are the two numbers to request directly.
Founders listed are Joel H. Stensby as CEO and president and Paul Kristedja as chief operating officer, with Lev Rabinovich as founding partner.
