GTL Construction is a general contractor and construction manager founded in 1998 and based in Wayne, New Jersey. It works across retail, commercial interiors, multifamily, hospitality and institutional projects in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan market, with a practice built around fast-track fit-out and ground-up work on constrained urban and suburban sites. GTL is the builder on the Cross County Center north lot redevelopment in Yonkers, New York, a 58,000-square-foot expansion in two buildings with underground parking and a four-acre public park, developed by Marx Realty at the 1.15-million-square-foot center that opened in 1954 as the nation’s first open-air shopping center. The firm handles preconstruction, design-build and construction management delivery alongside traditional hard-bid general contracting.
GTL operates from two offices rather than one: 1241 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, New York, and 240 Cedar Knolls Road in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey, each carrying its own phone line and its own LinkedIn presence for the New York and New Jersey entities. The company’s own site dates the business to 1999.
President Angelo Monaco is described as active in both office and site operations, working with the assigned project and field management team on each job. Service lines are broken out as pre-construction, general contracting, construction management, value engineering and estimating, with pre-construction covering estimating, strategic planning, site logistics and subcontractor pre-qualification.
The project list reads as a fit-out and renovation practice more than a ground-up one. Office and corporate interiors include BlackRock, Google, Charles Schwab, Citrix, Carlson Capital, Duck Creek Technologies, Argo AI, Suburban Propane and Bionpharma. Retail work spans Century 21, Tory Burch, Barnes and Noble, Blick Art Materials at two Manhattan locations, Burlington, Five Below on Staten Island, T-Mobile, a ShopRite supermarket and the Kings Plaza parking garage. Hospitality and food service includes Shake Shack, Kura Sushi, Duck Donuts, Hyatt Place, LA Fitness, Club Pilates and the New York Athletic Club.
Healthcare and laboratory work is a distinct strength: White Plains Hospital at two locations, Scarsdale Medical Group, Clover Health, Zoll Medical, NJ Urology and Ever/Body. In 2023 the firm completed a 7,000-square-foot facility for Regional Cancer Care Associates in Riverdale, New Jersey. Institutional clients include Westchester Community College, the Hudson River Museum, the Japanese Educational Institute, the Pelham Picture House and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. The firm also lists religious buildings, data centers and financial services among its sectors.
Recent New Jersey work has trended toward retail and food service: a comprehensive interior renovation for Gary’s Wine and Marketplace in Bernardsville, begun in 2024 with Guzzo Architects, and a 1,200-square-foot build-out for the Alfalfa restaurant on 1st Street in downtown Jersey City. GTL took the NJBIZ 2024 Leaders in Real Estate, Construction and Design award in the interior projects category for its Officeworks renovation in Morristown, a job of just over 5,000 square feet.
Buyers should note that GTL’s published headquarters is White Plains, New York, with the New Jersey operation based in Cedar Knolls.
