Evans General Contractors

Evans General Contractors is an Atlanta-based design-build, general contracting and construction management firm founded in 2001. The company runs more than 250 professionals out of regional offices in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia; Charleston and Greenville, South Carolina; Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; and Friedrichshafen, Germany. Evans works across industrial, commercial, advanced technology and data center markets, with design-build as its primary delivery model rather than an occasional option. ENR Southeast ranked the firm first in its Design-Build category for two consecutive years. Evans is the design-build partner on DC BLOX’s ATL-West campus in Douglasville, Georgia, a 180-megawatt, 750,000-square-foot data center, and on the company’s ATL-East campus in Conyers.

Richard Tim Evans, Sr. started the company in Alpharetta, north of Atlanta, and his son RT Evans now runs it as president and chief executive, a straightforward succession that has not moved the firm’s centre of gravity.

Two expansions shaped what the company became. The Savannah office opened in 2007 and grew into the largest division outside headquarters, carried along by the Port of Savannah’s growth and the distribution and manufacturing construction that followed it. Around 2009 the firm opened an office in Friedrichshafen, Germany to serve a German manufacturing client, an unusual move for a Southeastern contractor and one that came from following a customer rather than pursuing a market. Dallas and Jacksonville were added in 2023 and 2024.

The service model is front-loaded. Project development and preconstruction sit ahead of general contracting on the firm’s own list, with virtual design and construction, building information modelling, and supply chain management and procurement alongside. Procurement listed as a distinct service is telling: on advanced technology and manufacturing projects, switchgear and specialist equipment lead times now drive schedules more than trade labour does.

The markets follow from that, running to advanced technology and data centers, life sciences, manufacturing, food and beverage, healthcare, corporate and distribution. Recent work includes the Scout Automotive plant campus and a utility substation serving a DC BLOX data center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the kind of scope that sits between building construction and electrical infrastructure.

ENR placed the firm at number 56 on its 2026 Top 400 national contractors list, the national counterpart to the regional design-build ranking it has held.
