Cleveland Construction, Inc.

Cleveland Construction, Inc. is a general contractor and construction manager founded in 1980 and headquartered in Mentor, Ohio, operating through two divisions: a general contracting arm and a self-performing interior trades group covering metal framing, drywall, walls and ceilings. That combination lets the firm carry both the management and a substantial share of the field labor on the same job. It works nationally from offices in Mentor and Cleveland, Mason, Ohio, Charlotte, Elkridge, Maryland, and Orlando and Naples, Florida. Cleveland Construction is the general contractor on the 100 North Main redevelopment in Memphis, a $309 million adaptive reuse of the city’s tallest building into apartments, a hotel, office and retail across 792,873 square feet, with Phase 1 mobilized in early 2024.

Office-to-something conversions have become a signature for Cleveland Construction. In Cincinnati the firm turned the vacant Union Central Tower into Sky Central Apartments, a job its project manager describes as a running negotiation with hidden conditions and field surprises. In Cleveland, the Electric Building became a 120-unit multifamily development through phased delivery and finished a month ahead of schedule. In Savannah, demolition and mobilization began in 2026 on a 15-story historic office-to-hotel conversion for a new Ritz-Carlton. The company also holds the design-build contract for Project Scarlet, the adaptive reuse of the Rose Building, where phase one demolition is under way.

The interior trades division is a full specialty contractor in its own right rather than an in-house crew. It installs cold-formed metal stud framing and drywall, prefabricated load-bearing wall panels, suspended acoustical and specialty ceilings, acoustical wall treatments, EIFS and stucco, rough carpentry and Division 5 through 10 work, and it runs a commercial carpentry apprenticeship program. Current assignments include the interior trades package for the P-114 addition and alteration at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland – more than 591,000 square feet of remodel and replacement hospital, subcontracted to Clark Construction – plus the University of Kentucky Health Education Building in Lexington and the terminal modernization at Asheville Regional Airport.

The office map is worth checking against older directory entries. The company currently lists its headquarters in Mentor with regional offices in downtown Cleveland, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Baltimore, Orlando and Naples.

Recent completions show how varied the backlog is: a six-story, 146-room Hyatt House in Destin, Florida; a two-story, twelve-classroom and gymnasium addition at Buckeye Elementary School in Painesville, Ohio; a 42,000 square foot Lowes Foods renovation on Johns Island delivered over 32 weeks with most work done off-hours so the store could stay open; and new Walmart fuel stations in Bowling Green, Kentucky and in Lafayette and Princeton, Indiana. In August 2026 a helicopter lift placed a full set of rooftop mechanical equipment on the historic Johnston Building for The Beckworth Hotel in uptown Charlotte in under three hours.

The operating values are stated plainly – thoroughness, respect, accountability and communication – under the trademarked mission Make It True. Safety has its own public face: the company takes part in Construction Safety Week each May, joined Construction Inclusion Week in 2024, and publishes to a YouTube channel registered under a safety handle.
