CHASSE Building Team

CHASSE Building Team is an Arizona commercial general contractor founded in Tempe in 2007 by Barry Chasse, working chiefly in education, healthcare, municipal, community, multifamily and commercial buildings. It is fully teammate-owned through an ESOP the firm brands its Teammate Stock Ownership Plan, and it has grown from ten original employees to more than 150 across offices in Tempe and Tucson. Delivery is weighted toward construction manager at risk, with preconstruction, value engineering and closeout handled in-house. Recent Arizona work includes West Point High School in Tolleson, the Pascua Yaqui Healthcare Center and the Town of Marana Aquatics and Community Center. CHASSE is building the $187 million John S. McCain III Library and Museum in Tempe in joint venture with Clark Construction Group.

CHASSE Building Team has been putting projects together in Arizona since 2007. The Tempe office is at 230 S Siesta Lane and a second office sits at 5115 N Oracle Road in Tucson, which between them cover work across the Phoenix metro and southern Arizona. The firm builds education, healthcare, multifamily, municipal, community and commercial projects.

The company is 100 percent teammate-owned, and it uses that word deliberately. Staff are described as owners rather than employees, with a Meet Our Owners page standing in for a typical staff directory.

The build list leans heavily toward public and community work. Schools account for a large share: West Point High School, Canyon View High School, Mountain View High School, South Mountain High School, Agua Fria’s science labs and cafe, Blue Horizons Elementary, Gladden Farms Elementary, Dove Mountain CSTEM K-8, Sorrento K-8 and Marana Vista Academy, along with Arizona’s first K-8 work-based learning school in Maricopa. Municipal clients have included the City of Tempe, City of Phoenix, City of Glendale, City of Chandler, City of Avondale, City of Scottsdale and the Town of Marana, on projects ranging from park upgrades and aquatics centers to a parking garage and recreation center expansions.

Healthcare and multifamily fill out the rest. Southwest Kidney Institute, Adelante Healthcare, Pascua Yaqui Healthcare Center and Ocotillo Surgery Center sit alongside apartment and mixed-use projects such as Overture Kierland, Novel Midtown, Mesa Artspace Lofts and The Crossing at Cooley Station.

The process CHASSE describes covers preconstruction budgeting, milestone scheduling that includes design activities, value engineering, quality control set through pre-planning, partnering with clients, architects and subcontractors, and a punchlist and closeout stage that requires operation and maintenance manuals plus owner training.

After handover, warranty issues go through a submission form with photos and documentation, followed by a confirmation and a call from the warranty team. Urgent problems have a separate hotline.
