BluRoc

At BluRoc, we are built to overcome challenges. We provide access to even the most remote places by combining good ole hard work with decades of innovation and unwavering commitments to service and safety. If you need to build, transport or bring electric, gas, wind, or civil construction projects to tough, inhospitable terrain, you can depend on BluRoc.

BluRoc, part of the YAK Access network following a 2017 acquisition, provides access infrastructure across ten northeastern states – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.

The company’s roots are in land clearing. Its founders started out in mechanized site clearance, and BluRoc still cuts, clears and grubs sites by machine or, where machines cannot reach, by hand. From there the work moves into access matting – cross-laminated timber rig and crane mats laid down to create stable temporary roads over soft or environmentally sensitive ground – and into road and site grading engineered to meet Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan requirements.

Bridge work spans the full range from simple timber spans to highway-rated modular steel panel bridges, built for temporary or permanent use depending on the crossing. For utility clients specifically, BluRoc lists excavation and earthwork, access roads for power line construction and maintenance, waterway bridging and general right-of-way access among its transmission and distribution services.

In April 2020 BluRoc earned certification from the Gold Shovel Standard, a nonprofit focused on workforce safety, public safety and damage prevention around buried infrastructure. The certification announcement was issued from the company’s then-headquarters in Hadley, Massachusetts.

BluRoc organizes its work by industry as well as by service, with dedicated pages for transmission and distribution, midstream construction, civil construction and renewables – an indication that the same matting, clearing and access techniques get applied differently depending on whether the client is running gas pipe, building a solar array or stringing power lines through terrain a standard road crew could not reach.
