Schmidt & Stacy Consulting Engineers

Schmidt & Stacy Consulting Engineers is an MEP engineering firm founded in Dallas in 1992 and led by president David A. Schmidt, P.E. Its headquarters are in Cityplace Tower on North Haskell Avenue, and it runs offices in Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix, Denver and Omaha. The firm designs mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for offices, multifamily housing, schools, sports facilities and municipal buildings, and it offers sustainability services that include net-zero design. Its listed work includes Wingstop’s headquarters in Addison and the Northern Texas PGA headquarters in Frisco. The firm holds P.E. registrations in more than 30 states. It’s the MEP engineer on 5550 LBJ, High Street Residential’s 435-unit mixed-income apartment project replacing vacant offices along LBJ Freeway in North Dallas.

The firm runs from eight offices, and the list says something about where its clients build: Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio across Texas, then Phoenix, Denver and Omaha. Corporate headquarters sits in Cityplace Tower, 2711 N. Haskell Avenue, Suite 2900, Dallas, with Fort Worth and Houston reachable on their own direct lines. For a developer working across several of those metros, one MEP consultant with local registration in each is a scheduling advantage that is easy to underrate.

Sustainability is handled as a staffed team rather than a line item. That group covers commissioning and LEED certification support, and the firm says many of its projects have achieved certification, offering a range of sustainable design solutions up to net-zero targets. Commissioning sitting in the same firm as the design is worth noting – it means someone who understands the design intent is verifying that the installed systems actually deliver it.

Industrial ventilation appears as a distinct service alongside conventional mechanical, electrical and plumbing design, which points to process and manufacturing work rather than purely commercial buildings.

The published project list reads as a tour of recent Dallas-area development: the Jesuit Dove Field House, covering sports from golf to rowing to fencing; the Northern Texas PGA headquarters in Frisco, on a site that also includes Ronny Golf Park; the Old Parkland campus, one of Dallas’s historically significant office campuses; a GMi headquarters and warehouse roughly ten times the size of the company’s previous space; and Wingstop’s Addison headquarters, which includes test kitchens alongside office space. Test kitchens and field houses are both MEP-intensive building types, which is a more useful signal of capability than a client logo wall.

The firm describes its approach as collaborative, innovative and cost-effective, with a stated commitment to pursuing each client’s idea of perfection through attention to detail. It also publishes volunteering activity, including work at Bonton Farms. Employment and contact routes are direct, and the offices page is the fastest way to identify the right local team.
