Parametrix started in Sumner, Washington in 1969 as Delta Engineering and restructured under its current name in 1974. It is entirely employee-owned through an ESOP that has held 100 percent of the company since 1999, and runs close to 800 people across 21 locations in nine states, with its main Washington office at 1019 39th Avenue SE in Puyallup. Disciplines cover transportation, water, environmental, site development, surveying and geospatial, electrical engineering, climate resiliency, advisory work, grants and funding, and construction management. The firm partners with WSP on the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program over the Columbia River, leading community, agency and tribal coordination, and served as lead construction manager on the $399 million C Concourse expansion at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Much of the firm’s current range came in through acquisition, and the sequence reads as a deliberate filling of gaps. Taschek Environmental Consulting added cultural resources in 2008. Vector Engineering brought transportation in 2014, InterPlan added Salt Lake City in 2015, and Taylor Engineering brought Spokane and Coeur d’Alene in 2016. Civil FX added visualisation in 2020 and Pacific Geomatic Services added bathymetric survey in 2021. In 2023 came Good Company and Parisi Transportation Consulting.
Geographic expansion followed. San Diego and Chicago both opened in 2024, the latter marking the move into the Midwest; the Chicago office has since relocated to West Higgins Road, about three miles from O’Hare. In Washington the offices are Puyallup, Tacoma, Seattle, Spokane, Vancouver, Mukilteo and Silverdale.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation selected Parametrix to complete the corridor study for the state’s portion of the Ports-to-Plains route, the future Interstate 27 – long-horizon planning work of a kind that tends to seed decades of follow-on design.
Other current credits span the practical and the unusual: the C Concourse expansion at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a World Cup traffic dashboard, the Goshen Center Street Trail, and climate elements written into comprehensive plans for Island County, Liberty Lake and Anacortes.
Staff disciplines run wider than the engineer label suggests – planners, scientists, landscape architects, surveyors and construction managers alongside the engineers.
Recognition in 2026 covered both the work and the workplace: number 16 on ENR’s West Top Design Firms list, number 38 on the Mountain States and Southwest list, and third among medium-sized employers on Best Places to Work in New Mexico.
