Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers

Martin/Martin is an employee-owned civil and structural engineering firm based in Lakewood, just west of Denver. Its lineage runs to 1945, when structural engineer Milo Ketchum opened his practice; the Martin/Martin name dates to 1988, when John A. Martin & Associates bought the successor firm, KKBNA. Today the firm covers structural and civil design, surveying, forensic and existing-building work, facade access and construction engineering for aviation, data centers, healthcare, education, justice, sports and residential clients. Offices run from Lakewood to Atlanta, Kansas City and the Bay Area. At Clayworks in Golden, Martin/Martin was civil engineer for The Pottery, the 188,600-square-foot CoorsTek headquarters that Holder Construction built for developer AC Development.

Ten offices, 400-plus people, more than 80 years of practice, and 100% employee ownership. Denver is the headquarters, with Fort Collins and Vail covering the rest of Colorado and the remainder spread across Albuquerque, Atlanta, Kansas City, Northwest Arkansas, Wyoming and two Bay Area offices in Larkspur and San Mateo.

The service list is where the firm is unusual for a structural and civil practice, because roughly half of it concerns buildings that already exist.

Structural work covers bridge design and inspection, mass timber design, seismic evaluation and retrofit, and special structures. Civil covers dry utility coordination, entitlements, land development, major drainage, master planning, site engineering, transportation, and water and wastewater. Construction services cover construction engineering, detailing, delegated design, modular and prefabrication, and program management.

The existing building and site group is a full practice in its own right: adaptive reuse, architectural engineering, forensic and investigative services, building repairs and restoration, existing civil site investigation, historic preservation, insurance damage evaluations and claims support, non-destructive testing, parking garage evaluation and repairs, property condition assessment and due diligence, and 3D laser scanning. Special services add building envelope integrity, design-build, facade access and fall protection, geospatial GIS and digital solutions, litigation support, peer review and protective design. Survey covers ALTA surveys, design surveys and platting.

Market sectors run to aviation, advanced manufacturing, commercial and mixed use, cultural, data centers and mission critical, district engineering and public works, K-12 and higher education, federal, healthcare, infrastructure, justice, laboratory and research, municipal and state government, parking structures, subdivision and multi-family residential, and sports and entertainment.

The firm also runs AIA continuing education classes, with descriptions published on its site and class requests going through marketing@martinmartin.com. General enquiries: info@martinmartin.com, 303.431.6100.
