CV Engineering is a Pittsburgh construction engineering and project management firm founded in 1998. It’s based on McKnight East Drive in the city’s North Hills and has affiliated design offices, CV Designers, in Tarcento, Italy, and Hyderabad, India. The firm works on large, high-risk industrial jobs, mainly in the steel and heavy-metals business, and covers project development from pre-FEED and feasibility through engineering, steel detailing, project management and construction management. It pitches itself as a single point of accountability between engineering and the field. On Hertha Metals’ $100 million Chalyx high-purity iron plant in Conroe, Texas, which broke ground Oct. 8, CV Engineering is the EPCM partner.
The firm makes a specific claim about its own position that is worth stating in its own terms: it says it has been prime engineer or engineer of record on more than half of the largest steel mill projects built in the United States, and that it engineered five of the seven most recent major American steel mills.
The client list behind that is short and concentrated, which is how this market works. Nucor Steel, Big River Steel, U.S. Steel, Steel Dynamics, PRO-TEC Coating and Hybar.
Named work includes Nucor Steel Brandenburg’s plate mill in Kentucky and Nucor Steel West Virginia’s flat rolling mill at Apple Grove. For Big River Steel there was the NGO project and Mini Mills #1 and #2 in Osceola, Arkansas. ArcelorMittal’s NGOES project in Calvert, Alabama is on the list as well. Outside steel, the Mississippi Silicon silicon metals plant in Burnsville, Mississippi shows the same heavy-industrial engineering applied to a different material.
Licensure is where the practical answer to “can you work on my project” lives. The firm reports registration as a professional engineering firm across 25 states and jurisdictions, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, California and the District of Columbia among them, with its chief engineer licensed in numerous states individually.
Leadership is named. Kalyan Sennerikuppam is President and CEO, in the president role since 2015. Sharat Gottumukkala is Executive Vice President and COO. Narender Akubathini, P.E., is Chief Engineer.
The three-office structure is run as a single delivery model rather than three branches. The firm calls it Integrated Global Execution, spreading work across its U.S., Italian and Indian divisions, and reports growing the Hyderabad office fivefold under current leadership. The Tarcento office, CV Designers s.r.l., opened in 2024.
In-house steel detailing is the service that most distinguishes the scope. On a mill project, detailing sits between engineering and fabrication, and keeping it inside the same firm removes one of the more common sources of coordination error on heavy structural work.
Engagement can start well before a project is defined. Project development covers feasibility studies, Pre-FEED and budget evaluation, and runs through detailed engineering across civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical disciplines, then into project management and construction management.
