CAA ICON

CAA ICON is an owner’s representative and venue advisory firm based in Denver, Colorado, and part of Creative Artists Agency. It advises teams, leagues and public owners on the planning, financing and delivery of stadiums, arenas and mixed-use districts, and has worked on many of the largest sports venues in North America. CAA ICON is helping steer the Kansas City Chiefs’ new headquarters and practice campus in Olathe, Kansas, alongside Burns & McDonnell. The firm’s work centers on program management and strategy for major sports and entertainment projects.

CAA ICON grew out of a firm Tim Romani started in 2001, described in the company’s own telling as two people and a cell phone, after he had already helped deliver venues for the Chicago White Sox, the Ball Arena home of the Avalanche and Nuggets, and the Broncos’ Empower Field at Mile High. Operating as an owner’s representative, the firm went on to manage home venues for franchises across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS and other leagues, work it totals at more than $20 billion.

The corporate structure shifted twice. ICON Venue Group was acquired by CAA Sports in March 2016, and the business took the CAA ICON name in October 2017 after absorbing Barrett Sports Group. That places it inside CAA Sports, a sports enterprise the company describes as spanning 18 divisions, from media rights to athlete representation.

Today CAA ICON tallies more than 100 sports, entertainment and public-assembly projects, over 2,500 consulting engagements, and nearly $45 billion in combined project value, delivered by a team of 150-plus people across global offices that include its Denver location. Its work divides into three service lines: feasibility and planning, project management, and consulting, the advisory spine owners rely on when weighing whether and how to build. The firm frames its value as helping clients make informed decisions on some of the largest and most complex venue projects worldwide.
