Baker Construction

Baker Construction, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Monroe, Ohio, is one of the largest concrete contractors in the United States. The firm self-performs cast-in-place, post-tensioned and reinforced concrete work on high-rise, industrial, institutional and infrastructure projects, and it handles the formwork engineering and placement logistics that large continuous pours depend on. Baker was the concrete subcontractor on the St. Regis Residences tower in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, where crews placed 8,400 cubic yards of mat foundation continuously in under 16 hours in July 2026, fed by roughly 1,000 ready-mix deliveries from four dedicated batch plants through six boom pumps. The company operates nationally under the Baker Construction Enterprises umbrella.

Baker Construction began in a small house in Oxford, Ohio, in 1968, when 20-year-old Dan Baker talked his brothers Jim and Ken into starting Baker Cement Contractors after years working as a concrete finisher, a trade he learned from his grandfather Elmer. The company won its first commercial contract in 1972, and by 1982 had opened a Houston regional office and renamed itself Baker Concrete Construction. In February 2024, Baker Concrete united with several sister companies under the Baker Construction Enterprises umbrella to form the single Baker Construction brand operating today; the company more recently expanded its Carolinas presence through the acquisition of JC Building, LLC.

Safety runs through the company’s history: Baker says it was the first concrete contractor to implement a national safety program, and it now operates under an Incident and Injury Free culture built on new-hire orientation, scheduled OSHA recertification, weekly toolbox talks, and periodic job reviews led by a corporate safety director. Quality control follows a similar structure, with routine audits checking completed work against plans, and integrated preconstruction and project-management software meant to cut waste and keep schedules predictable across every regional office. Baker’s Job Management Process, built from more than 50 years of accumulated project knowledge, standardizes how crews plan and execute work company-wide.

Beyond high-rise and industrial concrete, Baker runs dedicated groups for industrial distribution, covering tilt-up and slab-on-grade work for distribution centers and warehouses; restoration, covering concrete repair and protection delivered under a model meant to keep client operations running during the work; and Baker Water, which handles treatment plants, pump and lift stations, storage tanks, and process piping for municipal and industrial clients. The company also states a sustainability focus on reducing the embodied carbon of the concrete it places, and runs five regional headquarters plus its Monroe, Ohio corporate office, covering projects across the United States and the Caribbean.
