Brice Inc.

Brice Inc. is an Alaska heavy civil contractor founded in 1961 and based on University Avenue in Fairbanks, with about 330 employees. It is a subsidiary of Calista Brice LLC and ultimately of Calista Corporation, the ANCSA regional corporation for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, and is Alaska Native shareholder-owned. Brice builds roads, bridges and airports, mining and energy infrastructure, utilities, barge landings and marine facilities, and runs construction logistics, equipment rental and quarry operations serving more than 100 remote Alaska locations. Much of its work is permafrost engineering in practice: the firm places rigid insulation inside road and runway sections to keep the underlying ground frozen. Current work includes disaster response at Kwigillingok and a roughly $500 million Corps of Engineers coastal erosion project at Utqiagvik.

Self-performance is the operating principle at Brice Inc. The company handles the majority of its work with its own crews rather than brokering it out, and it pulls in sister companies under the Calista Brice umbrella when a remote job needs more than one capability on site: Brice Equipment for rentals, Brown’s Hill Quarry for materials.

Airport work makes up a large share of the recent project list. Brice has delivered improvements at St. Mary’s, Marshall, Chalkyitsik and Togiak, including resurfacing and lighting replacement at Togiak, and carried out emergency repairs at Russian Mission. On the ground side, the company built the Cape Blossom Road at Kotzebue and the Nenana-Totchaket road improvements, and rebuilt bridges for the Alaska Railroad.

The service lines run wider than roads and runways. Utilities and energy work covers oilfield and pipeline construction and maintenance, pipeline pigging and integrity testing, fuel storage and power plants. Marine services cover barge landing facilities, port improvements and marine transportation. Combined with construction logistics, subcontractor management and workforce development, that mix lets Brice mobilize a complete package to villages where the nearest highway may be hundreds of miles away, from the Aleutians to sites above the Arctic Circle.

Marcus Trivette serves as president. Hiring runs through Calista Brice, which recruits for all subsidiaries and posts skilled trade and craft openings alongside professional and technical roles.

Safety across the Calista Brice group is built around a committee that includes field voices and a focus on leading indicators, such as how quickly hazards get resolved and how sites score in audits. Group companies have collected safety awards from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District, ConocoPhillips Excellence in Safety awards through AGC of Alaska, and Certificates of Achievement in Safety from the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
