Fogarty Finger

Fogarty Finger is an architecture and interior design firm based in New York City, founded in 2003 by Chris Fogarty and Robert Finger. The practice works across residential, commercial, hospitality and workplace projects, with a substantial share of its portfolio in office repositioning and adaptive reuse of existing New York buildings. That focus has grown as Manhattan owners have shifted from ground-up development toward upgrading aging Class A stock. The firm is leading architecture and interiors on the $150 million repositioning of 1540 Broadway, a 907,000-square-foot Times Square tower, where roughly 45,000 square feet of new tenant amenity space is being carved out of the 8th and 36th floors.

Three offices carry the practice: New York at 69 Walker Street, Atlanta at 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, and Boston at 125 High Street. The firm counts more than 130 architects and designers across those locations and describes itself as mid-sized, blending large-firm capability with small-firm culture. It publishes its own workforce composition, noting that over 50 percent of employees represent ethnic and racial minorities and 65 percent are women.

The design position is about integration. From the start of the practice more than twenty years ago, the partners built architecture and interior design into a single capability, arguing that whole-building solutions inside and out yield better results than handing interiors to a separate team. The stated aim is longevity: buildings and interiors that stay useful and appealing well past their opening year.

The built portfolio moves between building types rather than specializing in one. The Dime is a contemporary mixed-use tower. Union Channel is a nine-story luxury rental with an articulated facade and a full amenity package. The Eliza pairs the Inwood public library with twelve floors of subsidized apartments above it. 141 Willoughby is a Brooklyn office building in a fast-changing district. Interiors work includes the Savoy Club at the GM Building and Oasis at 767 Third, a workplace scheme drawing on sand dunes. Nevins Landing in Gowanus sits alongside partner Chris Fogarty’s public advocacy for that neighborhood’s redevelopment.

Recognition is extensive. The firm reports more than 100 industry awards and consistent inclusion on Architectural Record’s Top 300 list and Interior Design’s Top 100 Giants. Specific wins it highlights include a Urban Land Institute Excellence Award for The Lively, an IIDA Best of the Best award for The Dime, Interior Design Best of Year awards for the Dock 72 corporate cafeteria and the 25 Mercer model apartment, an Architizer A+ jury win for Dock 72, a Brooklyn Building Award for 95 Evergreen, and a Queens Chamber of Commerce award for The Jackson.

The studio has also moved into products. VESPER, a collaboration with Halcon, is its first official product launch.
