EDG Architects

EDG Architects, LLC has practiced in the Washington metropolitan area since 1972 and works from 3 Bethesda Metro Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The firm handles architecture and site design from single-family houses through large mixed-use and multifamily complexes, and puts its own project count above 150. Services run from environmental and site design through construction documents, bidding and construction administration. Multifamily and senior housing make up much of the current portfolio. EDG designed The Asberry at Barry Farm in Southeast Washington, a 108-unit mixed-use senior building with ground-floor retail for Preservation of Affordable Housing, built to passive house standards and the first new building completed on the redeveloped site.

Longevity and a small senior team are the defining features here. EDG has kept offices in the Washington metropolitan area since 1972 and puts its own project count above 150, spanning single-family residences through large commercial, mixed-use and multifamily residential complexes.

The staff page is worth reading before engaging the firm, because the principals bring experience from both sides of the table. Donald Tucker, AIA, LEED AP, is experienced as an architect and as a developer, and is also a principal of AHD, Inc., an affordable housing developer. He has taught architecture at Temple University, lectured at conferences and written on affordable and elderly housing design. That combination is uncommon and directly relevant to subsidised housing work, where the constraints are as much financial as architectural.

Michael K. Tucker, RA, LEED AP, and Timothy Powell, RA, LEED AP, carry the same sustainability accreditation. María Guzmán, AIA, NCARB, CAAPPR, joined EDG in January 2017 with over ten years of experience across institutional, recreational, retail, historic, rehabilitation, government and private commercial project types.

The office is at 3 Metro Center, Suite 110, Bethesda, MD 20814 – on the Metro, which for a practice serving the District and both suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia is a practical consideration rather than an aesthetic one.
