Detroit Architectural Group

Detroit Architectural Group is an architecture firm based in Wyandotte, Michigan, serving clients across southeast Michigan on industrial, warehouse, workplace, residential, retail, hospitality, municipal, healthcare and religious projects. The firm works through all phases of design and construction, from programming and schematic design through construction administration, and describes its approach as custom solutions built around each client’s constraints rather than repeated prototypes. DAG is architect of record for LuxWall’s 276,000-sq-ft vacuum-insulated glass manufacturing plant in Detroit, a high-impact manufacturing facility whose shell is complete with process equipment commissioning underway ahead of production in 2027. Industrial and warehouse work makes up a substantial share of the practice.

DAG publishes its service list as a single column, and it reads like a firm that expects to be brought in before a project has a shape: programming, feasibility studies, space and master planning, code and ordinance review, architectural design, construction administration, interior design, renderings and animations, value engineering, life-cycle cost analysis, and energy calculations.

The last three are worth pausing on. Value engineering, life-cycle cost analysis and energy calculations are what an owner needs when a building has to clear a budget committee or an energy code review, and they are more often bought from a separate consultant than from the architect of record. Keeping them in house shortens the loop between a design decision and the number that justifies it.

The portfolio is organised into eleven categories: industrial, warehouse, workplace, residential, retail, hospitality, experiential, municipal, health care, religious, and universities and schools. Named work visible on the site includes the Bedrock LuxWall facility, Liberty Park, a Grand Blanc department of public works and fire station, St Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and a Ford Alley experiential project. A glass plant, a municipal yard, a church and a retail interior is a characteristic spread for a practice that serves a region rather than a single building type.

Five operating principles are stated: expect excellence in work and actions while continuing to learn, lead and improve; act with integrity professionally and personally regardless of context; deliver a high quality product reliably against the client’s schedule and budget; treat client relationships as active partnerships built on responsive collaboration; and pursue technical innovation in products, technology and construction methods. The firm also makes a point of saying that each project and client brings unique challenges requiring custom solutions rather than a repeated prototype.
