PGAL is a Houston-based architecture, interiors and planning firm working across aviation, healthcare, education, public safety and science and technology facilities. The practice runs nine U.S. offices, with the headquarters on Briarpark Drive in Houston and additional studios in Dallas, Austin, Atlanta and Alexandria, Virginia. Aviation is among its strongest markets: PGAL is architect of record on the Terminal B transformation at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the $2.55 billion in-place rebuild that replaces United’s 1969-era flight stations with a 22-gate North Concourse and a new central processor. The firm’s public-sector work covers courthouses, municipal buildings and detention facilities. PGAL’s homepage marks 80 years of practice, which places its founding in the mid-1940s.
Terminal design is the volume business. PGAL’s own figures put its portfolio at more than 25 million square feet of airport terminal space across over 60 airports worldwide, split between ground-up buildings and renovations carried out inside terminals that never close.
The firm has pushed that work toward offsite delivery. At Dallas Fort Worth International, PGAL was lead design firm on the High C Gates, which it describes as the first airport terminal project in the country to use large-scale modular construction: six fully assembled modules built offsite and transported across the airfield to Terminal C. The same method is now being applied at greater scale on DFW Terminal F, with prefabrication used to compress onsite schedules and limit disruption to live operations.
Aviation is one lane among many. The market list also runs to city halls, consolidated rental car facilities, fire and EMS stations, police and public safety buildings, libraries, parking structures, public works, housing, hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, animal facilities, drainage, and site design and utilities, alongside healthcare, K-12 and higher education, justice and judicial, and science and technology. Four in-house disciplines carry the work: architecture, engineering, interiors and planning.
On scale and geography, PGAL reports close to 300 architects, engineers, interior designers and planners across 12 offices. Houston headquarters is at 3131 Briarpark Drive, with studios in Austin, Addison for Dallas/Fort Worth, Alexandria, Atlanta, Boca Raton, Greenwood Village outside Denver, Hoboken, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Draper near Salt Lake City, and San Diego. The firm dates its founding to 1946 and was ranked the largest architecture firm in the Houston area in the Houston Business Journal’s 2026 list.
Sustainability is handled as a technical process. Teams run building information modeling, energy analysis and performance simulation early to test daylight, energy demand and material impact, and the firm reports experience with LEED and WELL certification, Net-Zero energy targets, mass timber and other low-carbon structural systems, FSC-certified wood, and products carrying Environmental Product Declarations.
