Orion Group Holdings, Inc.

Orion Group Holdings is a Houston marine and industrial construction contractor trading on the NYSE as ORN, and formerly known as Orion Marine Group. It runs two business lines: a marine segment covering marine construction, transportation facility construction, dredging and specialty services, and a concrete segment doing light commercial, structural and industrial work. The company operates along the U.S. Gulf Coast and West Coast and in Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and the Caribbean Basin, with a fleet that lets it self-perform dredging and pile driving rather than subcontracting the marine scope. Orion is part of the joint venture with Dragados USA and Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company building Dry Dock 5 at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard under a $2.8 billion NAVFAC Pacific task order.

A third business line sits alongside marine and concrete. Orion’s Engineering and Consulting group operates as Schneider Engineering & Consulting, handling planning, design and permitting and serving as Engineer of Record for marine structures and related infrastructure. That group can be paired with the construction crews for turnkey design-build, as on the Golden Pass LNG flood gate design, which combined 30-foot and 60-foot gates on steel pipe pile-supported foundations with a steel sheet pile protective curtain and an anchored bulkhead wall.

The concrete side traces to 1980 and has grown from its Texas base into Florida. Featured work runs from Residences at The Allen, a 35-story tower anchoring Houston’s Inner Loop, to Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium in Channelview at 8,388 seats, the Rice University Music and Performing Arts Center and the Conroe Elementary package, with data centers, distribution warehouses, medical facilities and refineries named as target project types. On the marine side, the reference projects show what the fleet is for: the Dredge King Fisher deepened the Galveston Harbor channel to minus 50 feet and raised levees at the Pelican Island and San Jacinto placement areas for the Army Corps; the Southport Turning Notch Extension at Port Everglades required steel HZ combi-wall bulkhead; the Vigor Shipyard habitat restoration in Seattle combined demolition, a rebuilt pier section and a new stormwater system; and the Point Hudson Marina breakwater replacement in Washington finished early in 2023.

Most of that equipment is owned rather than rented. The dredge fleet includes cutter suction, portable and mechanical dredges positioned by region, backed by more than 60 spud barges that pair with crawler cranes for shallow-water work, plus an in-house tug and push boat fleet for moving gear to site. Marine services are organized as dredging, diving, marine specialty, and maintenance and repair, the last covering inspection, strengthening and repair of bulkheads, marine loading arms and similar assets. Field offices are spread along the coasts: Houston on Aerospace Avenue, Deer Park and Port Lavaca in Texas, plus Anchorage, Tacoma, Tampa and Metairie. Headquarters is 2940 Riverby Road, Suite 400, Houston.
