Alexander Building Construction Co.

Alexander Building Construction Co. is a Central Pennsylvania general contractor and construction manager founded in 1928, with offices in Harrisburg and State College. It is one of three operating companies in the Butz Family of Companies alongside Alvin H. Butz, Inc. and Shoemaker Construction Co., a group that splits Pennsylvania three ways: Alexander covers the center of the state, Alvin H. Butz the east, and Shoemaker the Philadelphia region.

The firm works primarily in construction management, both at-risk with a guaranteed maximum price and in agency form, and also delivers design-build and integrated project delivery. It runs a separate around-the-clock restoration practice covering fire, water and structural emergency response. Alexander is part of the joint venture with Barton Malow and AECOM Hunt delivering Penn State’s $700 million Beaver Stadium revitalization, which topped out in June 2026. The Butz group pioneered construction management delivery in the Lehigh Valley in 1973.
