Advocate Trinity Hospital Replacement — Chicago

Chicago’s South Side is getting its first new hospital in decades, on a stretch public-health data has flagged for years.

Advocate Health is building a $320 million replacement for Advocate Trinity Hospital, a facility more than a century old, on the city’s Southeast Side. Power Construction and Ujamaa Construction share the general-contractor role, with CannonDesign as architect. The project is part of a broader South Side care investment Advocate committed to alongside other systems.

Project Scope

The replacement folds aging buildings into a modern acute-care hospital sized for the neighborhood, with updated emergency, surgical and imaging space. Pairing Ujamaa, a Black-owned Chicago builder, with Power keeps a large share of the work with local firms.

Why It Matters

Hospital closures have thinned out care on parts of the South Side, so a ground-up replacement is a real shift. The build also tests whether big health systems will keep funding full-service hospitals in lower-income areas instead of trimming to clinics.
