Meta Platforms is building Prometheus, a roughly 1-gigawatt AI supercluster at its New Albany campus outside Columbus. The first cluster came online in late 2025, and expansion work runs through 2026. It’s one of several multi-gigawatt AI sites Meta has committed to as it chases larger models.
Project Scope
Prometheus ties hundreds of thousands of GPUs into a single training fabric, backed by on-site and contracted generation to feed the load. Meta has used fast-tracked construction, including tented and modular structures, to stand up capacity quicker than a conventional data hall allows.
Why It Matters
A gigawatt of compute in one place strains local grids and water systems, and Ohio regulators are watching the load-growth math closely. Prometheus marks how far the AI buildout has run past the size of a normal data center, and the power fights that come with it.
