Boston Logan is running out of curb, and the fix is a garage. Skanska is building a new Terminal E parking complex for the Massachusetts Port Authority under a roughly $250 million contract, part of Massport’s broader Terminal E program to handle growing international traffic.
Project Scope
The centerpiece is a multi-level structure of more than 725,000 square feet with about 4,000 spaces, including a ground-transportation level for taxis, rideshare, and shuttles. Skanska is also building a vehicular bridge tying the new garage to the existing central parking structure and a pedestrian bridge connecting it to the terminals. Rooftop solar panels offset part of the building’s energy use, and the design targets Parksmart certification, a standard for high-performance parking structures. Work runs through the end of the decade.
Why It Matters
Airport parking sounds mundane next to a new concourse, but curb and ground access are where most passenger complaints start. Adding structured parking and dedicated ride-hail levels pulls circling cars off the terminal frontage, the real bottleneck at a constrained urban airport like Logan. The solar and Parksmart targets also show how far sustainability expectations have crept into infrastructure that used to be pure concrete. For Massport, the garage is one piece of a larger bet that international travel through Boston keeps climbing.
