Charlotte chose to rebuild rather than replace. Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC, is getting an $800 million renovation that touches nearly every system in the 1990s building while keeping it standing.
Project Scope
A Clark Construction and D.A. Everett joint venture leads the work, with HOK, the stadium’s original architect, back for the redesign. Early phases replace aging mechanical, electrical, plumbing and ventilation systems, then move to new seating, wider accessibility, security upgrades, a reworked South Lawn pavilion and new restrooms. Construction follows a 10-to-12-month design phase and is expected to run through 2029, phased around the game calendar.
Why It Matters
Renovating a major stadium mid-life is its own discipline, harder in some ways than greenfield because crews work around events and an occupied building. The deal also shows how cities are splitting stadium costs: Charlotte committed $650 million, with Tepper Sports adding $150 million and more through 2039. Read our coverage of the contract award.
