The Athletics are building their future home on the Las Vegas Strip. The $2 billion ballpark rising on the old Tropicana site will seat about 33,000 under a retractable roof, built to handle desert heat while keeping an open-air feel.
Project Scope
A Mortenson and McCarthy joint venture is the construction manager, with HNTB as architect of record and Bjarke Ingels Group leading the design. Foundation work began in 2025, and the team is targeting a 2028 opening. The compact site, wedged into the Strip, drives much of the design, including the roof and a layout that frames views of the skyline.
Why It Matters
This is the franchise’s exit from Oakland and the city’s latest big-league venue, following the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. The public is in for $380 million, which keeps the stadium-subsidy debate alive even as construction moves ahead. For another major venue project, see the Bank of America Stadium renovation.
