Jamison Door Company

Jamison Door Company has made doors in Hagerstown, Md., since 1906. It’s best known for cold storage, freezer and cooler doors, and it also builds specialty doors for cleanrooms and fast-moving logistics buildings. Customers range from food processors to pharmaceutical plants. Jamison is now a subsidiary of Italy’s BMP Group. For about 30 years it supplied doors to ARCO Design/Build jobs around the country, and now ARCO is building Jamison a 355,000-square-foot plant of its own in Hagerstown. It’s the first phase of a 58-acre campus due in early 2028, with a $35 million to $50 million first-phase investment and up to 250 jobs. Some output will go to BMP’s European brands.

A good measure of what this company can build sits in Florida. In 1991 Jamison supplied two steel blast clean room doors, 20 feet by 50 feet, to the Cape Canaveral Satellite Processing Facility. Each leaf weighs 21 tons, and the company calls them the largest single-leaf operating doors ever built.

The catalogue is organised into six product families: industrial and cold storage doors, air doors, high-speed doors, non-corrosive FRP doors, soundproof and specialty doors, and clean room doors. The industries list runs wider than refrigeration alone, covering aerospace and shipyards, food and beverage, retail and commercial, logistics and distribution, manufacturing, parking and automotive, pharmaceutical and cleanroom, controlled atmosphere storage, energy and hazardous environments, entertainment and events, public service and government, and rural and agricultural buildings.

The firm started in Hagerstown as the Jones Cold Store Door Company, and the long company history it publishes tracks the shifts since: a board chairmanship passing through the family in 1942, nearly 50 employees serving in the armed forces during the Second World War, a push into energy-efficient door designs during the global energy crisis, Wye Jamison Allanbrook elected chair in 1993, and the acquisition of HCR, Inc. in 2004.

One internal tradition says something about retention. Jamison runs a 30-Year Club honouring employees with three decades of service, and records its largest intake, 20 people, in 1995.

For specifiers, the site publishes architect files, a video library and continuing education material through what it calls the Learning Institute. Door quotes and parts quotes are handled separately, and parts and service support is a standing part of the business rather than an afterthought.

Three core locations anchor the operation, and from those the company supports projects across North America through a network of sales representatives and service technicians. The Hagerstown number is 301-733-3100.
