Haskell

Haskell is an integrated architecture, engineering and construction firm founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in October 1965 as the Preston H. Haskell Company. It’s still headquartered on San Marco Boulevard in Jacksonville and says it has about 3,000 team members, with revenue just shy of $2 billion after doubling since 2018. Most of its work is design-build for manufacturers, food and beverage plants, aviation and federal clients, healthcare, maritime, water and life sciences. Haskell comes up in today’s Procore story as an earlier AI adopter: in a July announcement, it said Procore’s office document review cut its submittal review time from seven days to 10 minutes.

Four delivery methods sit side by side on Haskell’s service list, and the fourth is the one that marks the firm out. Design-build, construction management at risk and engineer procure construct are familiar enough; design manufacture install is not, and it points at a capability most AEC firms do not carry. An in-house manufacturing systems group covers process, packaging, material handling, automation and controls, utilities and refrigeration, which means a food or beverage client can have the building and the production line inside it handled under one roof.

More than 700 architects and engineers work across over twenty design disciplines. Building systems engineering stays in-house too, with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and fire protection all staffed internally, and Haskell Steel appears on the location list as its own operation alongside steel fabrication on the construction services menu. Clients who want drawings without a builder attached can buy that separately: design services are offered across all markets, including design-only.

The market list reads less like a general contractor’s and more like a set of specialisms: dairy, beer, wine and spirits, aviation and aerospace, mission critical, industrial water, federal and healthcare. A consulting arm handles economic development, healthcare advisory and manufacturing consulting on top.

Nineteen US offices run from Jacksonville out to Livermore, California, with Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, Tampa, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, St. Paul and Madison among them, plus operations in Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.

The habit of self-performing goes back a long way. The company built its own field workforce through a Permanent Craft Employee program and pioneered tilt-up construction, and its first industrial client, in 1967, was an apparel plant in southern Alabama handled as design and construction together, which is essentially the model it still sells.
