OHT Partners is an Austin-based multifamily developer, general contractor and investment firm founded in 2010. It operated as Oden Hughes until a 2021 rebrand, and the new name takes the initials of longtime principals Steve Oden, Craig Hughes and Eric Taylor. The company builds everything from garden-style to high-density apartment communities, both for its own deals and for third-party developers, with offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. At the time of the rebrand, it said it had completed or started more than 27,000 apartments over the prior decade. OHT is general contractor on 5550 LBJ, High Street Residential’s 435-unit mixed-income apartment project in North Dallas, which replaces three vacant office buildings along LBJ Freeway and is slated for completion in summer 2028.
The construction arm is the part of OHT that most owners will care about, and the firm states its position plainly: it has consistently ranked among the ten largest multifamily builders in the United States. That is a notable claim for a company whose work is concentrated in four Texas metros rather than spread nationally, and it follows from building both its own developments and third-party projects – the firm says it applies the same standards to a client’s project as to its own, and never compromises on safety or quality.
Product range is published as a filterable list rather than a brochure. Projects can be sorted by status (completed, sold, under construction), by market (Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio) and by construction type (garden-style, podium, single-family). That last filter is the useful one for a developer evaluating a contractor, because podium construction over structured parking is a materially different build from wood-frame garden-style, and the portfolio shows directly whether the firm has done your type in your market.
On the development side, the stated strategy is specific about location: highly visible, premier sites near major employers, retail attractions and recreational amenities in high-growth areas. On the investment side, the firm offers opportunities in Class A multifamily in the major Texas markets, describes itself as highly selective about the deals it pursues, and manages every stage of each deal it invests in, from site selection through to the end. An investor portal is published for existing partners.
The three arms – development, construction and investment – are run as one business, which is why a third-party client gets a contractor that also underwrites deals, and an investor gets a sponsor that also builds. The firm frames its construction crews as craftsmen working to earn trust and repeat business, and that repeat relationship is the practical argument for the integrated structure.
