Daikin Applied is the Minneapolis-based commercial HVAC arm of Japan’s Daikin Industries, which reports more than 98,000 employees worldwide. In the U.S. it designs, builds, sells and services chillers, rooftop systems, air handlers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, unit ventilators and modular systems, plus controls, rentals and parts. Its Minnesota footprint includes the Americas headquarters, the Atria campus in Plymouth and plants in Owatonna and Faribault. The company targets data centers, healthcare, K-12 and higher education, office, retail, hospitality and sports venues. On Oct. 14, 2026, Daikin Applied said it had expanded its Modular Solutions plant in Phoenix from 58,000 to 191,000 square feet, lifting capacity for factory-built hydronic and electric systems by about 150%.
What a specifier actually needs from Daikin Applied
The Americas headquarters sits at 13600 Industrial Park Blvd. in Minneapolis, and the company describes itself as leading the way for over 95 years. Its North American footprint extends past Minnesota: alongside the Atria campus in Plymouth and the Owatonna and Faribault facilities, there are operations in Staunton, Virginia, Phoenix, Arizona, and San Luis Potosi, Mexico, plus distribution centres in Dayton, Ohio and Reno, Nevada and a Latin America headquarters in Miami. Goodman Manufacturing sits within the same North American group.
Equipment rental is the line that often gets missed. Daikin Applied lists Rental Solutions as a product category in its own right, with rental equipment available 24/7 across the United States and Canada. For a chiller failure in July or a phased plant replacement that cannot take the building offline, that is a different conversation from a purchase order.
On the product side, the Pathfinder air-cooled chiller is the one the company singles out, describing it as the only chiller combining free cooling, full configurability and VVR compressors. Free cooling in particular changes the operating-cost case in northern climates, which is part of why the Minneapolis base is more than a coincidence.
For project teams chasing certification, Daikin Applied states that its equipment can contribute points toward LEED and that it supplies verified Environmental Product Declarations. Those EPDs are the documentation a design team needs for material and life-cycle credits, and having them already verified removes a step.
Two other things are worth knowing. Solutions Plaza is a physical showcase where the company says hundreds of customers each year see equipment running rather than specified on paper. And Environmental Vision 2050 sets a net-zero greenhouse gas target for 2050, which increasingly shapes how the product roadmap is pitched to institutional owners. Buying channels include OMNIA Partners cooperative contracts and a GSA route for federal work, and the company lists MCAA among its affiliations.
